Driver’s License Restriction Codes
Note: This motor vehicle licensing procedures are localized for Philippine transport system only. Other countries might have their own licensing procedures, so proceed with caution in some informations.
Before driving any motor vehicle, take note to heart that driving is NOT a RIGHT but a PRIVILEGE. Do not get too entitled just because you are paying road users tax or any taxes whatsoever. Remember that others are doing too.
Driver’s Licenses are valid for three (3) years or as amended. It expires on the third birth date of the applicant, commencing from the date of issuance.
The Current Driver’s License is a card-type license, which contains security features that help prevent forgery and production of fake versions.
The filing system is computerized, which provides for easier tracking, e.g. monitoring violations the license holder has been involved in.
Aside from containing information such as complete name, address, birth date, gender, height, weight, nationality, the driver’s license includes License Codes.

|Restriction 1 – Motorcycles / Motorized Tricycles|
|Restriction 2 – Vehicle up to 4500 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Restriction 3 – Vehicle above 4500 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Restriction 4 – Automatic Clutch up to 4500 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Restriction 5 – Automatic Clutch above 4500 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Restriction 6 – Articulated Vehicle 1600 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight and below|
|Restriction 7 – Articulated Vehicle 1601 kg. up to 4500 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Restriction 8 – Articulated Vehicle 4501 kg. and above Gross Vehicle Weight|
|Non-Professional Driver’s Licenses are allowed Restrictions 1, 2, and 4 only.|
